The Combined Council of Scottish Societies

(Auckland NZ)

Except for the years of the Second World War there has been a Highland Games held in Auckland since 1920. The current Association that runs the games was formed in 1975 as an Incorporated Society to ensure the longevity of the event as a non profit organisation.

The Games are bought together by a small, committed and enthusiastic committee and groups of volunteers who are devoted to ensuring a free, fun day for all the family which promotes with pride all elements of our Scottish culture and history here in Auckland as well as nationally.

There is a rich and colourful display of historical activities, and some more modern additions. These combine Highland and Country dancing, singing and music, the skirl of the pipes of the Pipe Bands and Solo Piping competitions. Field events such as caber tossing, sheaf and haggis tossing, tug of war, a heavy weight section, historical fighting, with games for the children to take part as well.

The day is run as a community family event where all activities are run so you can both relax and take in the sights or, if you feel like getting involved, there is plenty of opportunity to participate in the games around the field.
